More thoughts on Sunday Gospel, 29th Ordinary time, year of Luke

Meditatio: At the start of this blog I recommended praying a perpetual 54-day rosary novena. This consists of 3 x 9 days petition, followed by 3 x 9 days thanksgiving (whether or not the request has been visibly granted by the end of the first three novenas of petition).

This method of prayer can tell us a few things:

  • We need to think seriously about what we ask for – after all, 54 days is a long time to focus on one thing;
  • We need to be patient – again, 54 days IS a long time;
  • We need to be grateful, and really, it is perhaps necessary that our gratitude be SYSTEMATIC, because by nature we do tend to leave this off.

Could it be that the “thanksgiving” phase is the most important part of the 54-day novena? Is the whole point of our difficulties possibly just a way to get us talking to God and eventually seeing all the blessings we have already, rather than simply looking for the things we think we lack? By praying the 54-day novena perpetually, with one month of petition followed by one month of thanksgiving, we can learn to examine ourselves in one month for what we truly need and then another month for what we should truly be grateful for.

Oratio: Dear Mary, please help me to learn the wisdom of Solomon so that I may ask for the right things, and then the difficult art of being truly grateful and blessing God at all times.

    There is much you can heal through prayer and the rosary. I found a great website that has a link that allows you to pray the rosary with others. It is just fantastic and I feel it is important to share good finds with others.

      Thank you for the link to your website. It truly is a good opportunity to be able to pray in communion with others, especially for those people who don’t have access to a prayer group nearby 🙂
